This year in tennis

Mrs Sillence, Head of Tennis

As the season draws to a close, the courts have been buzzing with energy, laughter, and some impressive rallies!

The students have enjoyed a series of friendly fixtures that showcased great sportsmanship and skill and provided an opportunity for those students who are in the early stages of their tennis journey a taste of competitive tennis.

Juniors Rui, Matilda, Elizabeth and Mia also competed in their first competitive tournament at St Hugh’s and they won! The future looks bright for these young tennis stars!

The Year 7 and 8 and Year 9 and 10 Division 1 A squads won the summer LTA Youth Schools Competition and progressed to the regional knockout rounds later this summer.  The Year 9 and 10 squad confidently made it to the Regional Finals in Nottingham after comfortably beating Northampton High School and Rugby, displaying some fantastic tennis, working well as a team, and winning a nail-biting shoutout to finish 3rd in the region.

Parents also got involved in tennis this year at out Parent Daughter tournament. 27 students from years 5-10 competed alongside their parents for the U13 and U15 titles. We also added a touch of Wimbledon charm to the evening by providing a strawberry tea for spectators.

I’m very proud of the progress and direction tennis at St Helen’s is going and I am looking forward to next season!
