U13s regional cricket finals

Sam Herbert, Head of Cricket

At the end of April, our U13 indoor cricket squad travelled to Edgbaston for their regional round having come through a hotly contested county round with a tight victory over the Dragon School meaning they progressed.

Their day got off to comfortable start with a dominant 15-run victory over Toot Hill School. Quickly followed by another comfortable 44-run win over Newport Girls High School, bowling them out first for 41, two wickets apiece for Catherine and Ella.

Next up was the deciding game, after a break we knew victory would see us through to the final. Kings High had also won both group games thus far, so it was winner-takes-all. A solid bowling performance meant we were set a total of 86 to chase and after retirements from Alice and Eve our batting line up showed its depth as we got over the line and beyond to a 17-run victory, a great performance from the whole squad. Standout performances in the group games came from Eve, Alice and Catherine.

The final was up next, a change of pitch and new opposition, a strong King Edwards side who had also won all their group games. We bowled first and a strong opposition set 102 to win, which ultimately was a few too many. In pursuit we got to 85 meaning a 2nd place finish and King Edwards proving too strong on the day, worthy winners.

This young side have huge potential for the future and look forward to going again next year!
