U13A, B and C progress to the county cricket finals

Sam Herbert, Head of Cricket

St Helen’s Head of Cricket shares the latest news and outcomes of the Oxford County indoor cricket tournament – round 1

Our U13A team followed in the footsteps of the B and C teams from last week by qualifying for the county finals in the next half of Lent term.

The biggest highlight of the day was witnessing the A team’s progress as they developed and understood the game more with every game.

In our first game, we faced a strong side from Dragon School, who ended up being winners of the group. We showed inexperience and nerves in an early defeat, but every game after that improved in intensity and therefore students’ skillsets. Bettering Headington A and B comfortably and coming through a below-par bowling performance against Oxford High with an outstanding batting display with five players retiring.

We faced Cranford House in the last game knowing a victory guaranteed 2nd place on the day. After Cranford set a reasonable total of 82, we comfortably chased down with an over to spare, eventually finishing on 121.

Every player in the A team contributed with bat, ball and in the field, and we head into the next round full of confidence and belief, taking lessons learnt on the day to try and reverse form with the Dragon School side, and playing the top three sides from the other group.

Three St Helen’s teams will compete in a six-team county final group, a reflection of depth and talent at this age group. Roll on the next round!
