In late April, our U15 cricket team comfortably progressed through their county round and with expectations high with the squads’ respective successes last year we travelled to the regional round.
Our first game was against a familiar opponent in Ellesmere who we had met at previous indoor meetings. Two very evenly matched teams played out a greatly contested game in the right spirits, on this occasion things not quite going our way. Despite retirements from our top three batters Emily, Mary and Niamh, we came out with a loss by two wickets on the second-to-last ball of the game. A tough start but the players showed great grit and resilience to fight back in their following two games.
In our second game, we cruised to a 46-run win vs Nottingham High followed quickly by a 27-run win against RGS Worcester left us needing Ellesmere to lose for us to progress through to the final.
It wasn’t to be as Ellesmere beat Nottingham to go through to the final leaving us with one final game, a 3rd/4th play-off versus Lougborough High School. A hard game to stay motivated for the squad showed their class, and ended the day on a positive victory. Sadly, Ellesmere lost in the final to a strong Solihull side, leaving us wondering what could have been, but three victories from four on the day meant a 3rd place finish and a great display of team ethos and togetherness was the highlight of the day.
Batter of the day: Emily (9L) and Mary (9L)
