Winter Concert

St Helen’s Winter Concert was held on Tuesday 4 February. Read student reflections on the night’s showcase.

I really enjoyed my first Winter Concert at St Helen and St Katharine. I performed with Sinfonietta, Main School Choir and Team Pachelbel. All the rehearsals we did were so much fun because we got to see how our pieces were improving over the weeks. It was so enjoyable to listen to all the different music and singing ensembles and what they had been working on. I really liked this experience, and I felt proud to have the parents get to see what we have been getting on with at school. We are really grateful to our music teachers and Sixth Form helpers for making the concert so great and look forward to what we do next.

During the winter concert, I performed in Sinfonietta, Main School Choir, Team Pachelbel and Amati Trio. Sinfonietta was the main orchestral group that I was in whilst Amati was the trio between me and two music scholars in the year below. Many of these involved many weeks of dedicated practice, the exception being Team Pachelbel for which there were only four rehearsals to put together a piece of music for twenty-three violins. It was very interesting to hear the progress throughout the weeks before leading to the final concert. The concert day itself was quite busy with rehearsals throughout the afternoon before the concert itself, with time to eat before or during other rehearsals. Whilst this did involve a bit of rushing around, the experience was very enjoyable both to prepare for and to perform in and all the performances in the concert were a great success.
