Year 5 Manor Prep Chemistry visit

SHSK School

Year 5 students from Manor Prep stopped by St Helen’s for a Chemistry lesson.

They conducted a rotating series of mini-experiments related to matter, including placing a beaker of iodine into both hot and cold water to see what happens. The crowd favourite was making slime!

‘It’s really fun!’ said Izzy. ‘We’ve done similar experiments, but this is way cooler.’

Daisy said, ‘I’m really enjoying it. It’s unexpected but fun!’

When asked whether they would like to do experiments like this again, it was a resounding ‘yes!’

“It was a real pleasure to host this wonderful group of students,” said Carly Partridge, Science coordinator, Head of Chemistry. “They were focused and worked through the experiments superbly. Instilling a love of science at a young age is incredibly important – we hope these budding scientists left SHSK inspired and excited to see where the subject takes them in the future.”

“The children were literally ‘blown away’ with the activities and investigations Carly had organised,” said a Manor Prep teacher. “They all came back buzzing about the trip and your lovely school, so much so, one girl who wasn’t thinking of applying is now thinking about doing so.”
