A group from Year 9 History and A-level Drama visited the BT Studio at the Oxford Playhouse to see a new musical, Our Little Hour, written by Dougie Blaxland and Scott Blaysis, with music by Chris Anthony.
The amazing three-person cast brought to life the story of Walter Tull, the grandson of a Barbadian slave, who, after being orphaned at just eight years old, became the first Black British footballer and also the first from his background to be promoted as a British Army Officer. The creative use of simple costume changes and props created seamless transitions between roles, while the various accents and beautiful singing created a very dynamic and engaging performance.
We all found the experience incredibly inspiring, making me want to explore more similar stories.
There is a campaign to honour Walter Tull by awarding him the Military Cross and by erecting a statue in London if anyone is interested in signing the petition.
