Welcome to Biology – where science comes alive! We aim to inspire students to learn about the variety of life on this planet, the complex interactions between species and the intricate detail of the inner workings of cells and organisms. We believe that biology is for everybody, and we hope that our broad and varied curriculum will engage and challenge all students, as well as develop their practical techniques and problem-solving skills.
Our team of experienced teachers are passionate about biology and aim to make lessons fun and exciting for all. We undertake practical work whenever possible, including microscopy, dissection, microbiology, fieldwork, enzyme studies and qualitative testing. All our lessons are taught in our spacious and well-equipped laboratories.

Academic enrichment
We offer a range of opportunities for enrichment beyond the curriculum including Year 7 Science Club, participation in the British Science Association’s CREST Award scheme, Middle School Attenborough Society, Sixth Form Darwinian Society and MedSoc. We also encourage students to attend lectures by speakers both attending the School and in the local area.
We participate in a range of competitions including the GCSE Biology Challenge, Biology Olympiad, RAL School Science Prize and British Science Week Poster Competition.
Where possible, trips are organised to support our curriculum beyond the classroom. Members of our Sixth Form complete a fieldwork day at Harcourt Arboretum, exploring different sampling techniques and learning about the role of the Arboretum in ex-situ conservation.
